Time Management Techniques: Focus on What You Want

The power of focus is one of the most critical time management techniques: what we focus on grows, aka The Law of Attraction. Learn how to use this universal law to your advantage right now.

What's particularly interesting about this time management technique is that you're already using it whether you know it or not, and whether you like it or not - we all are. Unfortunately most people use the law of attraction in reverse: they focus on what they don't want.

Stop and think about that for a minute...if what we focus on grows, and we're focused on what we don't want......

Exactly...we get more of what we don't want.

You must learn to focus on what you DO want. Use the Law of Attraction to your benefit instead of your detriment.

Here are a couple of examples of how too many people use the Law of Attraction in reverse:

Do you know someone who's focused on losing weight? Just looking at the Get Life Changing Strategies Here. statistics in the United States, over 3/4 of the population is considered overweight. What's even more frightening is that over 1/3 of children are considered overweight or obese.

It's almost impossible to get through a day without hearing someone talk about losing weight. Although I skip through commercials with my TIVO (one of my absolute favorite time management techniques), weight loss commercials are constant.

What does losing weight have to do with the law of attraction? Remember, what we focus on grows, including when we focus on what we don't want. If someone's constantly focused on their weight, they're absolutely guaranteed to get more of it. They may lose a little, or even a lot, but it's gonig to come back....and the biggest single reasons is that it's what they're focused on.

There's a very simple explanation: when we focus on something over and over, we tend to take the actions consistent with that thought.

When it comes to weight loss, one of Albert Einstein's theories applies perfectly:

EinsteinFor every diet, there's an equal and opposite binge. Thanks Al....

So if you know focusing on losing weight will get you more of what you don't want, how do you change it? Simple, start focusing on what you DO want...

Think about it for a minute....what do people really want when they're focused on losing weight? They probably either want to look fantastic, or have more energy, or feel better about themselves. Personally I focus on having outstanding health and fitness.

I talk about it more in the About Me page....this one single shift in thinking took me from being totally out of shape to having done two full marathons and and Ironman Triathon in less than three years. The same is possible for you in all of the areas of your life.

By consistently focusing on outstanding health and fitness, would someone ever have to think about losing weight? No chance - it takes care of itself.

By consistently focusing on outstanding health and fitness, would someone ever try a dozen different crazy diets or dangerous pills. Would their weight constantly go up and down like a yo-yo? Nope.

I can't emphasize this point enough:

Whatever we focus on grows

Are you starting to see why this is probably the most important of all of the time management techniques? Just by applying this one time management technique consistently - using The Law of Attraction - you will see a major shift in your life.

Here's one more example so many people struggle with, especially now with the current economy: debt.

Now that you're aware of the Law of Attraction and how it effects all of us - whether we like it or not - how do you think someone's finances are if they're consistently focused on eliminating debt, or getting out of debt, or something similar?

Exactly.....They'll have MORE DEBT.....

By focusing on what they don't want they get more of it: debt.

What's the alternative? Well, could they focus on financial freedom, or abundance, or positive cash flow, or positive net worth?

I hope these two examples succeeded in helping you understand this time management techniques critical value and importance. So now for the obvious question....how do you start using The Law of Attraction to your advantage?

There are two parts to getting this time management techniques full benefit:

First, you've got to know what you want. Invest a few minutes right now and think about what you want in the most important areas of your life. I'll walk you through this in more detail in the Time of Your Life section of Learning Time Management Skills.

No need to go into too much detail right now; just get a general idea. If you're like most people, your relationships, your family, your friendships, your finances, your health, your career, and your knowledge & education are probably some of your really important areas.

Second, now that you have at least a general idea of what you want, you must stop focusing on what you don't want. Easier said than done?

I'm going to introduce you to an extremely powerful tool for making a change like this:
